InfraBuild sponsors WEC 2019

28 November 2018

InfraBuild will partner with the World Engineers Convention (WEC) to be hosted in Melbourne in November 2019. The convention is themed Engineering a Sustainable World: The next 100 years to align it with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Australian engineering will be in the spotlight as Melbourne prepares to host the World Engineers Convention (WEC) in November 2019. InfraBuild (formerly LIBERTY OneSteel) has joined the WEC as a Premier Partner of the quadrennial event, which coincides with Engineers Australia’s centenary year. Next year’s convention comes at a time when investment in nation-building infrastructure to sustainably meet the needs of Australia’s rapidly growing population is driving opportunity and innovation in the engineering profession.

The theme of WEC 2019, Engineering a Sustainable World: The next 100 years, is aligned to the advancement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a key objective for WEC organisers the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). Representing nearly 100 nations and 30 million engineers, WFEO is the world peak body for engineering and is recognised by the United Nations as one of the ten leading organisations in science and technology at an international level.

WEC 2019 will focus on the pivotal role of engineers in leadership and governance, innovation, sustainable cities and climate change and will bring together some of the greatest engineering minds from around the globe in one of the world’s most liveable cities.

The convention program, aligning to the 17 United Nations SDGs, will feature international and Australian speakers and will provide an opportunity for Australian engineers to share their expertise on an international stage.

With Australia’s nation-building infrastructure development currently at record levels, the sustainable delivery of that much-needed infrastructure is essential.

InfraBuild is Australia’s largest manufacturer of steel long products, a leading distributor of steel and reinforcing products, and operates one of the country’s largest metals recycling businesses.

InfraBuild is redefining steel as a sustainable building material and is helping customers improve their projects’ sustainability credentials. Steel is the most recycled building material in the world by weight and is infinitely recyclable. InfraBuild’s focus, underpinned by innovation and science, is around ‘Reducing, Reusing and Recycling’, including contracting with SIMEC ZEN Energy for the supply of sustainable renewable energy to power its steelmaking. The company leads innovation through early project engagement and implementing best practice sustainable design using steel. Its range of steel products comply with stringent Australian Standards.

InfraBuild’s Environmental Product Declarations are proof of its commitment to sustainability by maximising the efficiency of its products through the steel life cycle.
