Master Builders recognises Australia’s best builders for 2019

14 December 2019

The Master Builders Association’s annual awards celebrated this year’s best projects and the firms responsible for them. InfraBuild was one of this year’s National Awards Partners.

Australia’s best builders across the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors have been recognised as part of the 2019 Master Builders Association National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

The awards are held every year and celebrate outstanding projects of note. This year’s National Awards Dinner was held on 23 November at the Field of Light at Uluru.

Northern Beaches Hospital, Sydney

InfraBuild not only sponsored the National Health Facility Award, which was presented to CPB Contractors for the Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney, it supplied a large amount of reinforcing bar and mesh to the project.

According to Master Builders Australia Chief Executive Officer Denita Wawn, “the Northern Beaches Hospital was a highly complex, large-scale, high-specification design and construction project that required CPB to provide and manage separate expansion strategies for the public and private patient facilities.”

CPB Contractors had to deal with limited road infrastructure surrounding the project site and restricted truck movements from the main road to the site.

InfraBuild Construction Solutions supplied 2500 tonnes of reinforcing bar and mesh for both the hospital and carpark and managed a tight scheduling program.

“Anyone managing a concrete structure will stress the importance of having an exceptional reinforcement scheduler,”

said Mark Mittiga, Senior Project Engineer with CPB Contractors.

“In my opinion, InfraBuild Construction Solutions had a great scheduling team and this allowed the hospital to adhere to program.”

CPB achieved the distinction of completing the hospital build six weeks ahead of schedule.

Adelaide Botanic High School

The second InfraBuild-sponsored award was the National Education Facility Award, which was presented to Lendlease for the Adelaide Botanic High School in South Australia. Lendlease overcame all site and construction challenges to build a complex building that married new elements with an existing structure.

Wawn said the school set a new benchmark for educational institutions in Australia: “The skilled project team continually strived for innovative ways to program and resource construction activities and amended methodologies based on a ‘big picture’ viewpoint to increase resources, efficiencies and provide a safer work environment,” she said.

Among the key features of the project are visual connections between floors within the atrium and a building exterior that includes a frameless curtainwall system and vertical aluminium fins.

The Adelaide Botanic High School also won in the award in the National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award – $50 million to $100 million category.

Entries from each Master Builders state and territory are classed as winners in their Excellence in Residential Building and Construction Award categories. The winners from each state and territory then compete for the prestigious national award. The awards are judged by a national panel of independent building industry experts.

InfraBuild congratulates CPB Contractors, Lendlease and every other category winner at this year’s awards.
