In November 2019, the Northern Territory government and Northern Territory Airports Ltd secured a $150 million Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) loan to upgrade storage and energy infrastructure at airport facilities in Darwin, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

“This is a great example of how the NAIF is helping deliver jobs, economic growth and enhanced industrial and business activity across Northern Australia. Ticking off on the loan agreement opens the door for this project to create over 1500 much-needed jobs in the Northern Territory."
Matthew Canavan, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia

Northern Territory Airports Ltd will use the loan funds to:

• build a cold storage, freight and training facility at Darwin International Airport (DIA)

• create solar energy farms at DIA, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek airports

• resurface Alice Springs Airport’s runway, taxiways and apron, and install new runway lighting.
