|Status:||Major Development Plan (MDP) adopted. Pending Ministerial approval|
|Timeframe:||Three stages to be delivered up to 2030|
Hobart Airport's proposed terminal expansion project will be developed over three phases. Phase one, expected to be completed by December 2020, includes plans to expand the existing departures lounge and add international processing capacity. The final two stages will be completed by 2030 and will include increased baggage processing facilities and expanded food and beverage and retail offerings.
The plan to cater for international flights is expected to stimulate regional economic growth by opening up opportunities for Tasmanian primary producers and exporters to deliver produce to New Zealand and South-East Asia in particular.
Up to 120 workers are expected to work on the airport site at the height of the construction phase, plus there will be opportunities for local businesses to supply building materials and off-site fabrication services to the project.
