Located 145km south of Port Hedland, the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is a new mine development. A joint venture between Fortescue’s subsidiary FMG Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB, the project is valued at $3.7 billion and includes processing and transport facilities. Throughout construction, the project will generate 3,000 jobs for the Western Australian economy and 900 full-time positions once operations commence.
Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan heralded the project as a win for the region.
"This is great news for the Pilbara and great news for Western Australia. I look forward to working with FMG to ensure Western Australians, particularly in the Pilbara, will reap the benefits of this project in the years to come." Premier McGowan said.
Through their partnership with primary contractor CPB Contractors, InfraBuild Construction Solutions will supply 4 000 tonnes of reinforcing steel to the development of Iron Bridge’s wet processing plant. Expected to begin operations in the first half of 2022, Iron Bridge will deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate.
