Project Scope: In September 2019, Sunshine Coast Airport was confirmed as the fastest growing airport in the country for FY18/19 by the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE). At 5.8 per cent growth year-on-year, the Sunshine Coast Airport outpaced the national airport average growth rate of 1.1 per cent.
To support the growing needs of the Sunshine Coast, the upgraded airport will deliver a new runway, runway end taxiway loops and terminal facilities, and new access roads and utilities. Once complete, the airport expansion will enable direct flights to more destinations across Australia, Asia and the Western Pacific.
InfraBuild has supplied approximately 170 tonnes to primary contractor John Holland Group for the project, most of which have been used to construct culverts and other drainage structures beside the new runway.
John Holland Group estimates that 86 jobs will be created during construction. The project is also expected to generate economic growth and boost tourism in the Sunshine Coast area.
