Queensland Rail Mainline upgrade: Structural Steel Casebook

Between 1993 and 1997, Queensland Rail undertook a massive $590 million capital investment program in rail infrastructure in Queensland, referred to as the Main Line Upgrade (MLU) project. The program included the acquisition of new-generation rollingstock and the upgrading of the North Coast Line from Brisbane to Cairns and selected South West Branch Lines.

The magnitude of the project necessitated the involvement of five principal civil engineering consultants to carry out detailed design, documentation and supervision services for the deviations, timber bridge replacements and steel bridge strengthenings.
