InfraBuild at the ASI Convention: Decarbonisation in Action

17 September 2025

InfraBuild took part in the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) Annual Convention this week, where industry leaders came together to discuss the future of steel and its role in Australia’s energy transition.

Our CEO, Francisco Irazusta, addressed delegates on the sector’s path to decarbonisation.

“Innovation, the right policy settings, and a strong local manufacturing base are essential if we want to reduce emissions while keeping steelmaking competitive in Australia,” Francisco said.

“Products like SENSE 600® reinforcing bar show how Australian steel is already delivering lower-emission solutions.”

Delegates also joined InfraBuild for a tour of our recycling and electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking operations. The visit gave a firsthand look at our integrated circular steel model – taking scrap, producing new steel, and rolling it into finished products.

“Seeing circularity in practice reinforces that steel is a unique material,” Francisco added.

“It can be recycled endlessly, supporting both the sustainability of our industry and the resilience of Australian supply chains.”

The combination of convention discussions and site visits highlighted how InfraBuild, alongside the wider industry, is progressing decarbonisation while continuing to deliver the steel that underpins Australia’s infrastructure and growth.
