SENSE 600®: Australian made steel that makes compliance easy

26 August 2025

The push for more sustainable construction is strong, but adoption only works if new materials meet performance and compliance requirements.

That’s where SENSE 600® reinforcing steel, part of InfraBuild’s SENSE Solutions® range, makes it easy.

Made in Australia from 100% scrap, it delivers up to 39% lower embodied carbon and uses 16.7% less raw material than our 500N steel. And it still meets the same design and compliance standards.

Built to fit, not disrupt

SENSE 600® was developed to align with the codes and tools engineers know.

  • Produced in line with AS/NZS 4671 – Steel Reinforcing Materials
  • Supported by Mill certificates and JAS-ANZ accredited third party certification
  • Compatible with AS 3600 (Concrete Structures), AS 5100.5 (Bridge Design: Part 5 Concrete) and AS 2159 (Piling – Design and Installation)

That means you can keep using the same software, modelling tools and workflows you already rely on. For infrastructure projects where the National Construction Code (NCC) doesn’t apply, SENSE 600® can be a direct fit.

CodeMark for building projects

In building construction, where compliance with the NCC and the Building Code of Australia is required, SENSE 600® goes a step further. It holds CodeMark Certificates of Conformity for applications including longitudinal reinforcement and fitments in reinforced concrete columns.

“We developed SENSE 600® not just as a sustainable alternative, but as a drop-in solution,” says Anthony Ng, Engineering Solutions Manager.

“CodeMark supports this by providing a formally pre-assessed compliance pathway that allows engineers to produce conforming designs using substitution tables. CodeMark does not alter the underlying standards. It removes the need for significant additional work where a higher strength bar might otherwise trigger redesign or further review.”

What it means in practice

CodeMark certification helps in two common situations:

1. Fitment substitution

You can replace 500 MPa fitments with SENSE 600® without redesign, when following the CodeMark certificate. This reduces additional work and keeps the design process moving.

2. Longitudinal column bars

With higher yield strength and reduced mass, SENSE 600® allows more efficient layouts. You use less steel but still get the same performance. CodeMark provides the guidance to support these efficiencies.

No changes to your workflow

New sustainable products often mean extra steps. SENSE 600® was designed to avoid that. You don’t need to change how you model, detail or certify. In fact, with CodeMark the compliance process can be faster than with traditional reinforcement.

Making compliance easy

SENSE 600® brings together strength, sustainability and standards alignment.

For infrastructure projects, it matches the familiar Australian Standards.

For buildings, CodeMark gives extra certainty, cutting out doubt and streamlining documentation.

For engineers, certifiers and specifiers, compliance is easy with SENSE 600®.
