SENSE 600® wins Gold and Best in Class at the 2025 Australian Good Design Awards
20 October 2025
InfraBuild’s SENSE 600® reinforcing steel has received top honours at the 2025 Australian Good Design Awards, taking home both a Gold Tick Award and the prestigious Best in Class recognition.
The Australian Good Design Awards celebrate the boldest and most innovative projects shaping the future of design. Judged by an international panel of experts, Australian Good Design Award Gold Winners represent top products in each sub-category – these projects have gone beyond the criteria for good design, and demonstrate outstanding design quality, innovation and positive impact in their category.
The jury commented:
“InfraBuild’s SENSE 600® high strength 600MPa reinforcing bar with its innovative design lights the way to more sustainable construction. Its higher strength and smaller diameter equivalent capacity bars reduce embodied carbon when used in place of 500MPa conventional bar in the construction of reinforced concrete buildings. This project truly sets a new benchmark in the building and construction sector and has the potential to create a significant positive impact from a commercial, environmental and societal perspective. Design innovation at its best. Well done.”
Developed and manufactured in Australia in partnership with Monash University, SENSE 600® is made from 100% scrap in InfraBuild’s Electric Arc Furnaces, with our Sydney Electric Arc Furnace already powered by up to 25% renewable energy.
This together with a 16.7% reduction in raw material usage enables a reduction of embodied carbon by up to 39%.
“SENSE 600® represents the best of Australian innovation, with smart design, sustainable performance and practical application,” said Sharmy Francis, InfraBuild Innovation Manager.
“To receive both a Gold Tick and Best in Class Award is an incredible achievement and a proud moment for our business and our people. It recognises the creativity, collaboration and commitment that went into developing a lower embodied carbon product that supports Australia’s transition to a more sustainable future.”
“Our partnership with Monash University played a key role in bringing SENSE 600® to life,” Sharmy said.
“Together, we combined academic research and industry expertise to create a product that sets a new benchmark for performance, design and sustainability.”
SENSE 600® is backed by CodeMark certification and SSA, GECA and EPD credentials, reinforcing InfraBuild’s leadership in sustainable steelmaking and circular manufacturing.
