What It’s Really Like to Be a Graduate at InfraBuild
11 June 2025

Starting your career straight out of uni can be a big step. For this year’s graduate intake at InfraBuild, it has been more than just a transition. It has been a fast-paced, hands-on introduction to the real world of engineering, logistics and marketing. We caught up with three of our newest grads – Vivian, Harith and Pratik – to hear what surprised them, what they’ve learned and what advice they’d give to anyone thinking about applying.
Meet the Grads
Vivian Zhang is a Graduate Environmental Engineer who studied chemical and environmental engineering.
Harith Lal joined as a Marketing Graduate after completing his Masters in Business, majoring in marketing.
Pratik Misal is a Graduate in Supply Chain and Logistics, with a Masters in Strategic Supply Chain Management.
What’s something that surprised you about working here?
Pratik was surprised by how much responsibility he was given so early.
“I didn’t expect to be involved in real operations so soon. Working on-site, planning wagon movements and coordinating crane hire were things I thought I’d be watching, not doing.”
Vivian didn’t expect to feel so supported by people she hadn’t even met in person.
“I’ve been reaching out to teams at other sites for environmental data, and everyone has been so helpful. It’s made the job much easier and more enjoyable.”
What’s been the best part of the role so far?
Harith said the best part has been working across different departments.
“Collaborating with people from all parts of the business has helped me understand how everything fits together. I’ve also built strong relationships with experienced team members, which has been really valuable.”
Vivian enjoyed being part of something meaningful.
“Helping develop Environmental Product Declarations has shown me that my work makes a difference. It’s not just about learning. It’s about contributing.”
Pratik appreciated being trusted with real responsibility.
“Planning transport, safety measures and site operations gave me a sense of ownership. I felt like I was genuinely helping the business move forward.”
What’s something new you’ve learned?
Vivian said she didn’t expect emotional support to be such a key part of her development.
“My manager gives clear guidance but also supports me personally. That has helped me build confidence.”
Pratik found that even small decisions can have a big impact.
“If one crane movement is delayed, the whole supply chain feels it. I’ve learned how important it is to plan ahead and adapt quickly.”
What have you been most proud of?
Harith contributed to a social media campaign in collaboration with the Communications team, helping to pull together a range of content.
“I visited sites, took photos, recorded interviews and helped write copy for the posts. Being involved in something that represents our business to the public has been a great experience. I’m proud of the work we’ve done.”
Pratik took charge of a major logistics task.
“I helped quote costs, organise crane hire and prepare site safety documents. It felt good to be trusted with something so real.”
Any advice for new grads?
Vivian kept it simple.
“Ask questions. People want to help you.”
Harith encouraged grads to stay open to learning.
“You don’t need to know everything. Just stay curious and willing to grow.”
Pratik said the best learning happens when you get involved.
“Even if it feels unfamiliar, give it a go. That’s how you build confidence.”
How would you describe the culture?
Pratik summed it up well.
“Supportive, practical and focused on teamwork. You’re encouraged to take initiative and get involved from the start.”
At InfraBuild, the graduate program is not about waiting your turn. It’s about jumping in and building something valuable from day one.
