EPD
InfraBuild’s Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) present transparent, verified and comparable information about the life-cycle and environmental impact of our key Reinforcing Bar, Mesh and Wire products, and Merchant Bar products.
Fully updated and released in late 2025, InfraBuild’s eight current EPDs are premier contributors to our holistic commitment to the environmentally sustainable manufacture and application of our products.
InfraBuild’s Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have been independently generated and verified in accordance with the current accepted requirements and standards, including ISO 14025, EN15804+A2 and PCR 2019:14 Construction Products of the International EPD System (version 2.0.1 dated 2025-06-05).
These EPDs contain key information that designers, sustainability professionals, contractors and consultants use to inform their design, contractual and procurement decisions.
Of key interest is the Global Warming Potential (GWP), recycled content (both pre- and post-consumer) and Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) metrics that our EPDs provide.
EPDs are recognised in both the GBCA’s Green Star and ISC’s ISv2.1 ratings tools.
InfraBuild’s EPDs now deliver an increased RPV (Responsible Products Value) score of 7 (up from 5) in the Responsible Structures credits, thanks to changes by the GBCA in their Green Star ratings scheme in late 2025.
For InfraBuild’s products that have both an EPD and GECA Certification, this currently delivers an RPV (Responsible Products Value) score of 22.
These eight EPDs are an important part of InfraBuild’s commitment to the independent and transparent display of the environmental impacts of our products.
The inclusion of pre- and post-recycled scrap content data is a new and valuable addition to these EPDs, as it provides independently verified recycled content information that can be used to guide design, sustainability & procurement decisions.
Updated Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) metrics are provided for each product featured in the EPDs, which provides vital information for sustainability professionals as the business shifts to a more circular production model. The use of products with MCI scores is rewarded in the ISC ISv2.1 rating tool.
In recognising increasing customer demand for standardisation and greater transparency of our environmental performance, InfraBuild sees the publication of the sustainability credentials of its products as vitally important. The updated EPDs play a major role in the overall approach taken by the business through the environmentally sustainable manufacture and application of its products.
InfraBuild's EPDs comply with the requirements of a valid EPD recognised in the Green Star Design Rating Tool (Green Building Council of Australia) and the IS® Rating Tool (Infrastructure Sustainability Council).
What is the GWP of InfraBuild’s products?
Reflecting our dedication to sustainability, products manufactured solely or mainly from InfraBuild’s Electric Arc Furnace Mills in Melbourne and Sydney have the lowest GWP (kg CO2-eq/t), which include the following products
| Product Range | GWP |
| Merchant Bar | 926 |
| SENSE 600® Reinforcing Bar* | 982* |
| 500E Reinforcing Bar | 1,040 |
| SENSE 600® TrenchMesh™ | 1,120 |
| 500N Reinforcing Bar | 1,220 |
*It is important to note that SENSE 600® may deliver a mass reduction of up to 16.7 % in certain design situations, including columns, deep beams, walls, foundations and partially post tensioned band beams. In these instances, the “effective GWP”, when compared to the InfraBuild 500N solution, is 818 kg CO2-eq/t, against the tonnage of 500N product.
More details on the GWP for all products are available in the InfraBuild EPDs.
How does the MCI work?
The MCI tracks material flows from virgin stock, to use and eventual reuse. In short, its focus is entirely on the materials going in and the waste coming out along each step of a product’s lifecycle. It also considers a product’s utility when making the calculation, which includes the intensity of use and intended lifespan.
Finally, the MCI has a simple scale from 0 % (fully linear) to 100% (perfectly circular).
What is the MCI score of InfraBuild’s product?
Reflecting our dedication to sustainability, products manufactured solely or mainly from InfraBuild’s Electric Arc Furnace Mills in Melbourne and Sydney have the highest MCI scores, which include the following products
| Product Range | MCI |
| SENSE 600® Reinforcing Bar | 89.9 % |
| SENSE 600® TrenchMesh™ | 89.7 % |
| Merchant Bar | 89.4 % |
| 500E Reinforcing Bar | 88.1 % |
| 500N Reinforcing Bar | 85.9 % |
More details for all products are available in the InfraBuild EPDs.
What is the Recycled Content of InfraBuild’s product?
The Recycled Content is provided in all EPDs for both pre- and post-consumer scrap inputs, which when combined, provides a total (pre + post) recycled content score.
Similar to the MCI approach, products manufactured solely or mainly from InfraBuild’s Electric Arc Furnace Mills in Melbourne and Sydney have the highest total (pre + post) recycled scrap scores, which include the following products;
| Product Range | Recycled Content |
| Merchant Bar | 95.0 % |
| SENSE 600® Reinforcing Bar | 94.3 % |
| 500E Reinforcing Bar | 94.3 % |
| SENSE 600® TrenchMesh™ | 94.2 % |
| 500N Reinforcing Bar | 86.1 % |
More details for all products are available in the InfraBuild EPDs.
Who developed the InfraBuild EPDs?
thinkstep-anz were commissioned to develop the EPDs, recycled content information and associated MCI metrics for the products with independent verification from start2see. Each EPD has been updated in line with the required 5-year validity, including updated hotspot data covering over 95% of all impacts.
Are InfraBuild’s EPDs recognised by the GBCA and ISC?
InfraBuild's EPDs comply with the requirements of a valid EPD recognised in the GBCA’s Green Star Design Rating Tool (Green Building Council of Australia) and the ISC’s IS® Rating Tool (Infrastructure Sustainability Council).
