We are Australia’s leading integrated steel manufacturing, distribution and recycling business, providing solutions for commercial and residential construction, large scale and nation-building infrastructure, our primary producers and rural sectors. Each day we help build and enable a stronger Australia, for a changing world.
We are the largest integrated manufacturer and supplier of steel long products and solutions, and one of the largest metals recycling businesses in the country.
As a LIBERTY Steel Group brand, and part of the GFG Alliance, we work with a clear purpose to create a more sustainable future for industry and society, and contribute to GFG’s mission to become Carbon Neutral by 2030 (CN30).
We back the inventiveness and vision of our people, their diversity, their dedication, drive and passion. From our local teams supporting the construction of homes and schools and hospitals, to supplying reinforcing and structural solutions to build roads and tunnels and airports, decades of knowledge and passion are forged into everything we do.
Our internal operating infrastructure
We are Australia’s only fully vertically integrated steel manufacturer - producing building and construction products - spanning scrap metal recycling, steel manufacturing and downstream distribution.
We are Australia’s largest processor and distributor of steel long products, including reinforcing bar, reinforcing mesh, tubular and hollow sections, merchant bar and wire products.
Our vertically integrated supply chain includes 26 scrap metal recycling sites across Australia, which includes four shredders.
Our recycling business units contributes about 1.4 million tonnes of scrap metal annually into our steelmaking operations.
We have an integrated steelmaking and manufacturing network, comprising two Steel Long Product producing Electric Arc Furnaces (in Rooty Hill, Sydney; and Laverton, in Melbourne); and eight product manufacturing mills (Bar, Rod, Rolling, Tubular and Wire) in Laverton, Geelong, Rooty Hill, Newcastle and Brisbane.
We have a proud history of more than 100 years of continuous manufacturing in Australia.
From our manufacturing sites on Australia’s East Coast, we supply a range of steel products to distributors and processors nationally.
We have significant national footprint through our network of 113 retail and processing sites across the country and provide quality products and technical expertise with partners in the Australian construction, residential, mining, transport, manufacturing, infrastructure and agricultural industries.
GREENSTEEL™ and CN30
We produce low-carbon steel and manufactured products, using GREENSTEEL™ manufacturing approaches to lower our carbon footprint.
Through recycling scrap metal, and using our Electric Arc Furnaces (at Rooty Hill, in Sydney, and Laverton, in Melbourne), we reduce carbon emssions by a third compared to traditional steelmaking methods.
Recycling metal reduces pollution, saves resources, reduces waste going to landfills and is an integral part our GREENSTEEL™ strategy, providing our businesses with a sustainable supply of feedstock for our electric arc furnaces to produce steel.
As part of our commitment to the GFG Alliance CN30 target, we will build on our GREENSTEEL™ strategies by using new technologies and renewable energy sources to further reduce our carbon footprint.
Supply Chain traceability and Modern Slavery
We provide a competitive advantage to our customers with full traceability through every step in our supply chain. InfraBuild has been at the forefront of this and was one of the first listings in the ISupply directory. This Directory, established by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA), provides direct access to suppliers that can help a project or asset achieve sustainability.
We have also implemented a Supplier Standard (code of conduct) which specifically addresses our commitment to human rights, zero tolerance to human trafficking, child labour or the use of conflict minerals. To address Modern Slavery we have conducted a risk assessment to identify suppliers with a high risk to any potential modern slavery practices. Agreements now include specific clauses to modern slavery and have been put in place with high risk suppliers.
