Amanda Charalambous makes history at InfraBuild Steel Centre Darwin.

Darwin has announced the appointment of Amanda Charalambous as the company’s new Northern Territory State Manager, making the her the most senior person in the local business and the first woman to lead the company in the region.

Ms Charalambous takes over from outgoing State Manager Barry Duthie as part of the company’s transition program. Mr Duthie, who after eight years in the role is stepping into a Sales Manager position, will continue to provide his experience and expertise to mentor the next generation of leaders within the business.

With over a decade of experience across a variety of large construction and manufacturing companies, the last of which has been as InfraBuild Steel Centre Darwin’s Sales Manager, Amanda brings a wealth of industry expertise to build on the strong legacy of the company in the region.

“I am excited to be taking on the challenge of leading InfraBuild Steel Centre’s operation in the Northern Territory,” Ms Charalambous said. “Over the past two years I have seen first-hand the importance of the company’s continual investment in the NT construction industry and community, and the opportunity to build on existing relationships, and create new ones, throughout the region is something that I am very passionate about.”

InfraBuild Steel Centre Managing Director Michael Negri says Ms Charalambous track record of excellence made the appointment a relatively straightforward one.

“Since joining InfraBuild in 2018 Amanda has become an integral part of our operations in the Northern Territory, and this appointment is testament to the hard work, determination and expertise that she has demonstrated over the past two years. The relationship between our Darwin Centre and the local community is one that the company is very proud of and we are excited to watch it evolve and blossom further under Amanda’s leadership,” Mr Negri said.

Amanda’s appointment is a significant milestone for InfraBuild, ushering in the next exciting chapter in the company’s rich history at the forefront of construction in the Northern Territory. Over the course of many decades, InfraBuild Steel Centre has provided steel to some of Darwin’s largest and most iconic projects including Parliament House, Darwin Convention Centre, Casuarina Shopping Centre, Darwin Airport and many more.

The business is now particularly important for the region given the recent closure of local steel businesses such as Orrcon, Reomart and United Steel, and has doubled-down on its commitment to NT construction by investing in a state-of-the-art drill line that is set to be up and running early next year. Bringing a raft of new capabilities for customers, the new system reflects InfraBuild’s Steel Centre’s long-term focus on supporting the NT community. 

As the country’s largest integrated manufacturer and supplier of steel long products and solutions, Mr Negri said InfraBuild continued to lead the way when it comes to evolving practices and processes in the industry.

“InfraBuild and the steel industry broadly has made huge strides in recent years to better itself and meet the expectations of society, including chasing ambitious sustainability goals and increasing leadership diversity,” Mr Negri said. “Having Amanda become the first woman to lead the business in the Territory highlights the changing face of the steel industry here in Australia.”
