A Year of Resilience, Innovation and Partnership

3 December 2025

This year has tested the resilience of our industry and our business, yet it has also reinforced the strength of our dedication to our customers and the wider steel industry.

Performance in a Challenging Market

The global steel market in 2025 has been defined by volatility and increased competition. Rising imports into the Australian market have placed significant pressure on local steel companies particularly fabricators.

As a domestic steel producer, InfraBuild has been taking a stand against the rising imports to protect the jobs and skills of Australia’s steel industry.

InfraBuild directly employs more than 4,500 people, and we work with over 15,000 suppliers, many of them small businesses. In addition we serve more than 17,600 customers, these are often other businesses involved in building and construction, employing local workers as part of infrastructure projects.

It is our dedication to fostering strong partnerships with customers and combined with our strong local supply chain, even during challenging market conditions, we still provide the reinforcing steel Australia needs to build its future.

Driving Sustainability Through Circularity

November’s Recycling Week was a timely reminder of the role we play in advancing the metals circular economy. Steel is infinitely recyclable, and our commitment to sustainable practices is central to our purpose.

It is the concept of both circularity, along with doing more with less, that enabled us to bring to market our SENSE 600® reinforcing steel. Made from 100% scrap steel with 16.7% less raw materials with the same load capacity, SENSE 600 also delivers up to 39% lower embodied carbon compared to our standard 500N grade steel.

This is all possible due to the way we make steel, by taking scrap and using our electric arc furnaces, producing new steel. Each year we take around 1.4 million tonnes of scrap to use in our EAFs, reducing emissions and conserving natural resources.

Since the start of 2025, InfraBuild has been receiving up to 25% renewable electricity into our Sydney and Newcastle manufacturing sites. Our approach to circularity, along with our innovative new SENSE 600® steel, is providing reinforcing bar that plays a practical role in reducing our customers’ Scope 3 emissions.

Innovation and Customer Partnerships

Innovation is the cornerstone of our future growth. In 2025, we accelerated initiatives to modernise our production processes and enhance product performance. From our SENSE 600® reinforcing steel to digital solutions for our customers that improve supply chain visibility, we are committed to delivering innovations that matter.

Equally important is our approach to collaboration. We believe that strong partnerships drive shared success. Throughout the year, we have worked closely with customers, industry and universities to co-develop solutions tailored to their evolving needs of our markets, whether in construction, manufacturing, or infrastructure. This customer-centric mindset will remain a defining feature for us.

Using innovation, technology, our sustainability leadership, and a century of local manufacturing heritage, we are eager to be the trusted partner that empowers our customers to create tomorrow’s buildings and infrastructure while achieving today’s sustainability goals.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The coming year will bring continued challenges, but also significant opportunities. Global demand for sustainable materials is growing, and steel – recyclable, durable, and versatile – will play a critical role in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Our priorities for 2026 are clear:

  • Strengthen competitiveness through operational excellence and cost discipline.
  • Advance sustainability by scaling recycling and investing in green technologies.
  • Foster innovation to deliver products and services that anticipate market needs.
  • Deepen partnerships with customers, suppliers, and communities to create shared value.

Closing Thoughts

I want to thank our customers, partners, stakeholders and of course our people for their unwavering support and collaboration throughout 2025. Together, we have navigated a complex environment and laid the foundation for a stronger, more sustainable future.

Stay safe,

Francisco Irazusta
