Building Strength Through Best Practice

10 September 2025

InfraBuild’s annual Manufacturing Best Practice Conference kicked off in Newcastle this week, bringing together leaders from across the business for two days of discussion, collaboration, and fresh thinking.

The event has become a key fixture on the manufacturing calendar, creating the space for people from every part of our operations to connect, share challenges, and identify opportunities.

Anthony Micallef, EGM Manufacturing, said the conference was about more than presentations.

“It’s a chance to step away from the day-to-day and really look at how we can strengthen our performance as a team. Best practice is about listening, learning, and pushing ourselves to do better every year.”

A new location, same purpose

This year the conference shifted to Newcastle, a fitting venue at the heart of Australia’s steel industry. The change brought new energy to the event while continuing the focus on practical improvement.

Leaders in the room

The team was joined by senior leadership who took part in the sessions while reinforcing the connection between manufacturing, and leadership.

Anthony said having senior leaders in the room added weight to the conversations.

“When our leaders sit beside frontline and technical experts, it shows that best practice is owned by everyone. It’s about making sure we have the right culture and capabilities to deliver on our goals.”

Looking ahead

The conference wrapped up after two days of workshops, case studies, and open discussions.

As Anthony summed up:

“We’ve got a strong foundation, but we’re always looking for ways to improve. Events like this keep us moving forward together.”
