Three questions at the centre of safety this National Safe Work Month

1 October 2026

October is National Safe Work Month, and at InfraBuild we are using the month to reinforce a simple approach to safer work: understand the risk, know the controls and check that they are working.

Across our operations, our focus is on three questions:

1. What are the critical risks in the work we’re doing today?
2. What key controls are in place to keep us safe?
3. How do we know the controls are effective?

Turning safety into everyday conversations

For InfraBuild, safety is about more than having systems and procedures in place. It also depends on people understanding the work in front of them, recognising the critical risks and being confident that the right controls are in place and effective.

The three questions are designed to support those conversations across our sites and operations, helping teams think critically about risk before work starts and as conditions change.

They provide a simple framework that can be applied across very different environments, from steel manufacturing and recycling to reinforcing, distribution and our broader operations.

Checking that controls are working

A key part of the approach is going beyond whether a control exists.

Teams are also being asked to consider whether the control is working as intended and providing the protection it is designed to provide.

Where controls are not in place or are not effective, the message is clear: stop the work and seek support before continuing.

Hearing from our people

Throughout National Safe Work Month, we will also be sharing stories from people across InfraBuild about how they identify critical risks, understand the controls that matter in their work and check that those controls are effective.

These conversations will bring the three questions to life through real work and real experiences across our business.

While National Safe Work Month gives us an opportunity to put an additional spotlight on safety, the intent extends well beyond October.

We want these three questions to become a normal part of how we approach work every day:

What are the critical risks? What controls are in place? And how do we know they are effective?
