Wire business unit recognised for safety improvement through stronger risk management

5 May 2026

InfraBuild’s Wire business unit has been recognised as the most improved business, receiving the company’s perpetual Safety Award. The recognition reflects a sustained focus on reducing risk exposure and strengthening critical risk management over the past 12 months.

The annual trophy was presented at InfraBuild’s Mayfield site last week by Sean Mannering, EGM Distribution and Processing, acknowledging the progress made across the business unit.

Building stronger safety systems

Over the past year, the Wire business unit has improved the quality of incident investigations, strengthened verification activities and increased the effectiveness of critical risk controls.

A key milestone has been the completion of the business’s risk registry, ensuring all risks are identified and supported by clear actions to address gaps. This provides a stronger foundation for consistent risk management across operations.

Focused action on critical risks

The team has also delivered targeted engineering and system improvements in high-risk areas, including:

  • Upgrading driver safe zones for mobile equipment
  • Enhancing protection systems on 500VDC rectifiers
  • Improving machine safety through upgraded guard interlocks on wire drawing equipment

These changes are designed to reduce exposure to risk before incidents occur.

Improved safety outcomes

This work is translating into improved performance, including a reduction in injury severity and fewer critical incidents.

The results reflect a shift towards proactive risk management, supported by stronger systems and consistent verification.

“Our focus is on building safety into the way we operate, through strong controls, clear accountability and continuous improvement,” said InfraBuild CEO, Francisco Irazusta.

“The progress made by the Wire business unit shows the impact of taking a disciplined approach to managing critical risks and verifying that controls are working.”

A practical example of safer operations

The recognition highlights the importance of leadership, robust controls and learning from experience. It demonstrates how consistent focus on critical risks can strengthen safety performance and deliver better outcomes across the business.
