Inspiring the next generation: St Mary’s students visit Sydney Steel Mill
20 October 2025
Sydney Steel Mill (SSM) recently welcomed Year 12 Environmental Studies students from St Mary’s for an immersive site visit designed to connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience.
The visit began with a guided tour of the Meltshop and Rolling Mill, giving students a first-hand look at steelmaking in action, from recycling scrap metal to producing high-quality steel products. The tour highlighted the environmental initiatives embedded in our operations, demonstrating how sustainable practices are applied at every stage of the process.
A careers panel followed, offering students insight into the diverse pathways and career opportunities available within the steel industry. The panel featured:
- Dana Tugay-an – Operator
- Marjan Hassanzadeh Rad – Quality Leader
- Shane Burge & Vincenzo Palucci – Maintenance Leaders with over a decade of experience each
- Bryce Holliday – Recent Graduate Mechanical Engineer
- Cal Wilson – Current Fitter Apprentice
InfraBuild’s partnership with local schools reflects our commitment to community engagement and future workforce development. By opening our doors to students, we aim to inspire the next generation to explore careers in sustainable steelmaking and understand the critical role the industry plays in building a more circular, low-carbon future.
