Supporting Local Manufacturing for a Stronger Energy Future

30 June 2025

InfraBuild has welcomed the WA Government’s announcement of a $25 million investment to expand local manufacturing capability in the state’s energy sector. The focus is on building transmission infrastructure to support the renewable energy transition.

Boosting Transmission Capacity Through Local Industry

The investment includes a planned advanced manufacturing facility in Forrestfield, developed in consultation with industry. This facility will produce critical steel components for Western Power’s growing transmission network.

Another $5 million will go toward early works at a new advanced manufacturing and technology hub in Picton, where Western Power will be a foundation tenant. The state government has committed a total of $55 million over the forward estimates to support the hub’s development over the next four years.

“This investment confirms the vital role that Australian steelmakers and fabricators will play in the transition to renewable energy.”

Supporting WA’s Transition with Local Capability

As WA prepares to phase out coal-fired power by 2030, the South West Interconnected System will be significantly upgraded. The demand for new transmission infrastructure is a chance to grow sovereign capability and strengthen local supply chains.

InfraBuild is already helping deliver for WA. We have 18 sites across the state, supporting infrastructure, construction and manufacturing with locally made and processed steel. Our WA team plays a key role in getting quality steel where it’s needed, backed by a secure national supply chain from mill to site.

Western Power will also receive $10 million to improve its local procurement approach, helping ensure WA manufacturers remain central to future energy projects.

“InfraBuild stands ready to support Western Power and the broader transmission supply chain by delivering quality, locally manufactured steel solutions.”

— Francisco Irazusta, CEO InfraBuild

A Future Made in WA

The investment is part of the WA Government’s Future Made in WA strategy, which aims to boost local jobs, support domestic capability and secure the electricity grid for the long term. InfraBuild is proud to play a part in that strategy by delivering steel solutions that support WA’s renewable energy future.
