The Gabba’s steel frame

1 January 2015

Gabba … the story continues

The transition is almost complete. Following on from the multi-award winning Northern Stand in 1995, the Brisbane Cricket Ground, affectionately known as ‘the Gabba’, has undergone two further stages of construction, with the completion of the Eastern and Western Stands (Stage 4) and the Southern Stand (Stage 5) in late 1999.

Presently undergoing field reconstruction and Olympic overlay works, the 37,000-seat world-class stadium is being readied to host the Olympic Football (soccer) tournament. Extensive fireeEngineering research support has provided a cost-effective solution for the redevelopment of the stadium, utilising an unprotected steel frame.
