InfraBuild recognised as a 2026 Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association
15 April 2026
InfraBuild has been recognised as a 2026 Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), placing us among a small group of steelmakers globally acknowledged for strong performance across sustainability, transparency and industry leadership.
The recognition reflects consistent action across how we produce steel, how we measure our impact, and how we contribute to advancing standards across the industry.
Recognising action, not intent
Worldsteel’s Sustainability Champions programme recognises steel companies that demonstrate a clear and measurable commitment to sustainable development.
To qualify, companies must meet strict criteria across three areas: commitment and action, measurement and transparency, and industry excellence.
For InfraBuild, this includes:
- Commitment to Worldsteel’s Sustainability Charter
- Providing robust Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data covering the majority of our steel production
- Recognition through global programs such as the Steelie Awards or Safety and Health Recognition Programme
Together, these requirements ensure the recognition reflects real performance, not just ambition.
Built on a circular steelmaking model
InfraBuild’s approach to sustainability is grounded in our circular steelmaking model.
We recycle scrap and remanufacture it into new products through our electric arc furnace operations. This process supports significantly lower embodied carbon compared to traditional steelmaking methods, while making more efficient use of resources.
This model underpins our ability to support customers with practical, lower embodied carbon solutions at scale.
Driving measurable impact
The Sustainability Champions recognition also reflects the importance of transparency and data.
InfraBuild has participated in Worldsteel’s data collection programmes for more than 15 years, contributing to global benchmarking and improving understanding of steel’s environmental footprint.
This ongoing commitment ensures our performance is measurable, credible and aligned with international standards.
Our team working together
InfraBuild CEO Francisco Irazusta said the recognition reflects the work of teams across the business.
“This recognition from the World Steel Association reflects the strength of our sustainability performance and the work our people deliver every day,” he said.
“We are focused on leading the shift to lower embodied carbon steel, scaling solutions like SENSE 600® and supporting our customers to build more efficiently.”
“I’m very proud of our team and what we are achieving together.”
Supporting industry progress
The Sustainability Champions programme is designed to encourage steelmakers to set higher standards and continue improving performance year on year.
Recognition is reassessed annually, ensuring companies remain focused on continuous improvement.
For InfraBuild, this aligns closely with our strategy to lead in lower embodied carbon steel, support more efficient construction outcomes, and partner with customers to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
