AI-Powered Cameras Keeping People Safe at Laverton

25 August 2025

At InfraBuild, safety and wellbeing come first. That’s why we are trialling new technology at our Laverton recycling site to prevent incidents before they happen.

Six AI-powered cameras have been installed on the CAT 982 loader as part of a new trial. The 360-degree proximity detection system gives the driver an instant alert if a pedestrian comes within five metres of the machine.

The system issues an audible warning, “Pedestrians within 5 metres,” and a radar display in the cabin provides a clear visual cue. Together, they give operators more awareness and help prevent incidents before they happen.

“This is about more than just new equipment. It is about strengthening our safety systems and supporting our people. Technology like this adds another layer of protection and shows our commitment to making sure everyone goes home safe,” said Fran Nores, Executive General Manager Health, Environment, Sustainability and Safety.

The trial reflects InfraBuild’s wider focus on using advanced technology to improve operations across the business. AI, automation and digital systems are becoming part of day-to-day work, creating safer and more efficient sites.

“At InfraBuild we are investing in technology to improve how we operate, from safety through to efficiency and sustainability. These AI-powered cameras are a good example of how innovative technology in combination with our people helps us build a stronger and more modern business.” said Francisco Irazusta, CEO InfraBuild.

By combining robust safety controls with new technology, InfraBuild is reinforcing its commitment to safety and wellbeing. The Laverton trial is another step toward safer, smarter operations across all sites.
